About The COVID-19 measures for pets implemented by the Republic Of Turkey Ministry Of Agriculture And Forestry
In accordance with the COVID-19 measures for pets, implemented by the Republic Of Turkey Ministry Of Agriculture And Forestry General Directorate Of Food And Control, rules for transporting pets and animals have been amended.
* Pets, including dogs, cats, birds and ornamental fish, that have health cards, are considered non-commercial and may travel with the owner. The animal, together with its owner, must be isolated for 14 days when returning from abroad.
* Because the origin and/or intermediate hosts for SARS-CoV-2 (a factor in COVID-19 and classified as a zoonotic virus) has not yet been fully clarified, the evaluation of whether exotic animals can be origin or intermediate hosts is ongoing. As such, the commercial entry and exit of exotic animals, invertebrates, amphibians, dogs, cats, ferrets, reptiles, rodents, rabbits and birds is suspended until further notice.
* Controlled imports of experimental animals must be permitted, However it must be ensured that these animals are kept in laboratory conditions and controlled environments for use in studies for scientific research (such as vaccine development, drug development, antiserum development) in our country,
* Parasitoid factors and predictors for pest control and import of butterfly species is permitted.
* Animal products imported for the use of animals must be subjected to heat treatment for at least 30 minutes at 70 C before use or in preparation, and this protocol must be used until the pandemic has officially ended. Animal products used in the feeding of aquatic animals and beneficial insects, dried or frozen animal products, land and water invertebrates (such as insect eggs, artemia eggs) or forage fish, such as sardines used in the feeding of live tuna, are permitted to be imported without irradiation
* The import of live or frozen lobsters, crabs, crayfish, shrimp and other animal products used for human consumption may be permitted, but general hygiene measures must be taken to prevent contamination from the outside when preparing these products. Protective equipment must be used during food preparation and hand hygiene must be employed before and after contact with food.
