THE FIRST SENTENCE of a lonely character in ‘Korkuyu Beklerken’, written by Oğuz Atay, is as follows, “The more I’m afraid of being alone, the lonelier I am.’ Then, he found a letter written in a foreign language at home. ‘You should definitely not step out of your home from the moment you received this letter. Oğuz Atay, generally working on the topic of fear, wrote the following sentences in his diary in 25 March 1974: “Maybe this is our first sin. It is the fear of living. The challenge is to try to get rid of this fear by making anybody and anything give in. It is the fear of those who expect to see an enemy round every corner after turning the world into a battlefield...”
