The smart home project developed by METU students went on to the second stage of the International Solar Decathlon Design Competition.
The low-cost smart home project that takes all of its energy from the sun and uses it in an efficient manner, developed by the Solar Decathlon Turkey Team founded by METU students to participate in the Solar Decathlon competition held by the US Department of Energy, was among the twenty projects to pass the first phase of the competition. The second leg of the International Solar Decathlon Design Competition will be held in China in 2013. Supported by the METU Department of Architecture, Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, and IEEE METU Student Club, the team receives consultation from respected academics including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Güven Arif Sargın, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sofia Tahira Elias Özkan, and Dr. Hakan Gürsu. In 2013, the team will build the house they designed in China and present it for viewing.
