Voluntary Service In Twenty-Six Locations
From Kocaeli to Erzurum and Bursa to Trabzon, wherever there is a natural disaster or someone is trapped, AKUT (Search and Rescue Association) is there, and has been for the past fifteen years: the organization, which has thus far saved 1,209 lives in numerous operations in Turkey and in many countries around the world with its 1,200 voluntary members, celebrated its fifteenth anniversary last month.
AKUT, chaired by Nasuh Mahruki, is Turkey’s first and only NGO in the field of search and rescue. The organization has volunteers stationed in twenty-six different locations in Turkey.
